George Brown Waterfront Campus Officially Open

October 26 marked the official opening of the new George Brown College Waterfront Campus, located off Queens Quay just west of Sherbourne. George Brown president Anne Sado was joined by politicians Bernard Trottier and Glen Murray, along with industry leaders and alumni to open the state-of-the-art $175 million Centre for Health Sciences. The opening was commemorated with a traditional tea ceremony followed by a faculty parade and ceremonial drummers.

The 380,000 square foot campus, designed by Stantec and KPMB Architects, rises eight storeys above the Toronto waterfront on the site of a former brownfield. Situated next to Sherbourne Common and only steps away from Sugar Beach, students will be provided with ample outdoor study space in addition to the several formal and informal study spaces throughout the campus.

Bringing in over 3,500 students and hundreds of jobs, the LEED Gold certified campus will play a key role in bringing life to the burgeoning East Bayfront community. The Centre for Health Sciences will also benefit the community by providing health and dental services in it’s WAVE Clinics (Wellness, Applied Research and Visionary Education).
