C.W. Jefferys Collegiate in lockdown after student stabbed

C.W. Jefferys Collegiate in lockdown after student stabbed: “

A 16-year-old male student at C.W. Jefferys Collegiate Institute was stabbed over the lunch hour today.

The boy arrived home bleeding from a stab wound to the stomach.

The school, located near North Yorks Jane and Finch intersection, was locked down at about 1 p.m., said a school receptionist.

Toronto Police Const. Tony Vela said a 16-year-old boy who was weak and ‘bleeding profusely from the stomach’ somehow managed to take a cab home.

‘His parents called the school and it was put under lockdown. Police officers are scene and are investigating,’ said Vela, who noted the boy, who was transferred to hospital in serious condition, was not being co-operative with police.

Vela was unsure if the attack was gang-related or whether the teen was a student at the school, which has about 850 students.

Police did not have any suspects in the incident.

In May, 2007, 15-year-old Jordan Manners was shot and killed inside the same high school.

The death of the Grade 9 student brought into question the safety of Toronto high schools. His death also resulted in the creation of the School Community Special Advisory Panel, which released a report last year that said there was a culture of fear and violence in many Toronto schools.

A pilot program done in the conjunction with the Toronto police also put 19 officers in schools across the city.
