Highway 400 re-opens after 55-vehicle pileup:More than 55 vehicles, including a tractor-trailer hauling corrosive liquid, were involved in a pile-up late this morning on Hwy. 400 south of Barrie.Several people were injured in the accident, between route 88 and 89, but no fatalities or serious injuries were reported, according to OPP Sergeant Cam Woolley.Police received report of the crash just before 11 a.m. Sgt. Woolley said the highway had been cleared and road conditions were good, aside from some ice and snow at the edge of the shoulder. There were four major collisions involving 11 cars, and 15 minorcollisions involving 44 cars as vehicles attempted to avoid the pile-up.”We blame it on speed. People we're going too fast for these conditions. Rush hour was OK because drivers were forced to go slow, but once traffic cleared up a bit people started going too fast.” said Sgt. Woolley. The highway reopened to traffic just before 3 p.m.— Story by Ben Shingler, National Post
